Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Buckets and console, AM FM, Hurst shifter, A C, P S, P B, Hurst wheels with trim rings, Radial T A tires, sliding sunroof. Sound older repaint with masking flaws, cracked seals, tape graphics, some weak trim chrome. Frayed drivers seat piping. Orderly underhood but showing use and age. An old but presentable cosmetic redo of a sound car.

Market commentary

The story is that after 1971s Pace Car accident with Eldon Palmer at the wheel of the Dodge pace car manufacturers were understandably reluctant to step up in 1972. Hurst stepped in and promoted this series of Oldsmobiles. Its not Indys proudest moment, but a significant sidebar, the only non manufacturer ever to pace the 500. This cars condition reflects the dichotomy and its price is reasonable, even if its no prize.
