Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Chrome spoke Borranis, side exhaust, outside filler, removable (non original) roof panel. A beautiful and beautifully re created body, equipped for and used in historic competition. Apparently originally bodied in this style by Pinin Farina, then rebodied and probably raced by Centro Sud as a spider. Body built by Church Green and Paul Grist using a surviving original berlinetta as a model. Neat, tidy and in like new condition.

Market commentary

After Bonhams success with the A6GCS Gran Sport Spider at Quail Lodge in August (s n 2110, $552,500), its no surprise this exceptionally pretty car brought big money, although with its completely new body and only sketchy history it is impressively BIG money. Unsold on the block, this result is a private sale transaction reported by Bonhams and places a high premium indeed on a reproduction body. Fifties sports racing Maseratis are the flavor of the year, apparently.
