Equipment
There was no Sportsman in the Cord catalog, but there was a reference to the disappearing top Convertible Coupe as the ideal car for a sportsman, and it was so appropriate to the car that the name has fastened itself indelibly to the body style. This example is the best of the lot, with power from the 170hp centrifugally supercharged Lycoming V8 engine. It is a multiple show and class winner and an CCCA Premier Senior winner. The engine has been supercharged since 1953 and it is believed that it was added at the Cord factory. It is one of the few supercharged Cords not to have the optional flexible chrome outside head pipes. Still nearly in Concours condition.
Market commentary
Reported sold by RM at Amelia Island in 2001 for $159,500, then later that year at Meadow Brook for $154,000. Sold here for a fair price considering its attractive and fairly rare body style, supercharged engine and continuing good condition which speaks well of the quality of its restoration.
