On this episode of Stay Tuned, Tony and the boys hop in the truck and head to Spanish Harlem in NYC to rescue a 1973 Buick Electra 225 that has been sitting in a parking garage for 15 years. Packed with 455 cubic inches of Buick V8 power, topped with a ton of 90’s speed parts, this boat was built to be the “fastest Buick in New York.” With nothing but some hand tools, a few small parts, and a lot of carb cleaner, they set out to get this car running and driving. Will they get it fired off? Will it make the drive home? Most importantly, will it do killer burnouts?

Jason Cammisa got the exclusive first test, strapped on his equipment, and broke the production-car record: the Lucid Air Sapphire is the world’s quickest-accelerating production car.

With a staggering quarter-mile performance of 9.1 seconds at 156 mph, this 1200+ horsepower 3-motor Air beat out the reigning champion, the triple-motor, 1020-hp Tesla Model S Plaid, which does the 1/4-mile in 9.3 seconds at 152 mph.

The cars are “tied” at 2.1 seconds 0-60, though some trivia: the Lucid Air Sapphire gets to 60 mph 0.03 seconds before the Tesla Model S Plaid.

We weren’t satisfied with just that race, so we also brought along the fastest-accelerating gas-powered production car, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. This is the 1479-hp (1500-PS) Chiron with shortened gear ratios, grippy Michelin Cup 2R tires, a fixed rear wing, and weight-reduction measures.

Even despite these hyper-aggressive Michelins’ distaste for cold tarmac, the Chiron ripped off a 2.3-second, four-wheel-burnout launch from 0-to-60 mph, and then continued on to a 9.3-second, 156-mph quarter-mile performance. That is a tenth quicker to 60 mph than the “regular” Chiron has managed, and a tenth quicker through the quarter, too.

That’s an internal-combustion production-car 1/4-mile record for the Chiron Pur Sport — and we suspect that, in warmer conditions, this Pur Sport would be even quicker!

That’s not the case with the 210-hp Ducati Panigale V4 SP2, one of the quickest superbikes in the world. It had no traction issues as MotoAmerica Supersport champion rider Josh Herrin cracked the throttle wide open, dumped the dry clutch, and ripped off a stupefying 9.3-second, 157-mph run through the quarter-mile.

This beat our last outing with the same Panigale, when it handily beat a 2023 Corvette Z06. This time, Ducati softened the suspension and dropped the fork; Josh sacrificed the clutch and kept the wheelie at bay. It’s safe to say this is the limit for the SP2 — except that Ducati offers a factory Akrapovic exhaust and tune that boost horsepower. We’d love to come back and try that again!

But for the moment, it’s clear: among production cars with four wheels, the Lucid Air Sapphire is now the acceleration king, with the Chiron Pur Sport in second place. In one video, Tesla went from first to third.

May the fight continue.

This drag race pits the new 2023 Corvette Z06, and its outrageous, 8600-rpm 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 against the world’s fastest naturally aspirated, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive cars — and one motorcycle.

Representing the 4-cylinder engine is the 15,500-rpm Ducati Panigale SP2, Ducati’s top-of-the-line track-focused superbike.

The 6-cylinder Porsche 911 GT3 is the naturally aspirated benchmark at more than 125 hp/liter and a 9000-rpm redline.

And the Audi R8 Performance V10 Spyder RWD has an 8700-rpm screaming V-10 shared with the Lamborghini Huracan.

In this episode of Cammisa’s Ultimate Drag Race Replay, Webby Award-winning automotive journalist Jason Cammisa is joined by SCCA Hall of Fame Race Car Driver Randy Pobst — and MotoAmerica Supersport Champion rider Josh Herrin.

And they might have attacked one another with a baseball bat.

For this episode of The Driver’s Seat, Henry Catchpole walks around the city of Bradford looking pensive until he stumbles upon a garage with a secret. MZR Roadsports is a gem of a company that is producing some beautiful restomods based on the Datsun 240Z (also known as the Nissan Fairlady Z). Since Singer Vehicle Design set the internet alight with its reimagining of the Porsche 911, there has been a vibrant market for subtly (and wildly) updated classics and although the S30 Datsun is an unusual basis for a restomod made in the UK, the result is fascinating.

With a full carbon fibre body and a larger, 3.2-litre straight-six engine, this is the first example of the company’s latest Evolution model – the Caraba commission. It sounds glorious, with hints of BMW, Jaguar, and even Ferrari in the soundtrack, and it has 275bhp which is sent to the rear wheels through a modern, six-speed manual gearbox. The whole car is light, too, weighing in at just 1079kg (2379lb), wet.

Inside, there are bespoke carbon seats covered in wonderfully soft Spinneybeck leather and the dashboard is a voluptuous redesign of the original with similarities to a Lamborghini Miura. Despite being a relatively diminutive two-seater sports car designed in the 1960s, there is a surprising amount of room in the cabin, which makes you instantly imagine setting off on a road trip. It’s all topped off with a gear-lever that has something of the Atari CX40 joystick about it – in a good way. And the price for an Evolution? A remarkably reasonable £200k, including the donor car.

If all that isn’t enough to get you clicking on the film, just know that if you don’t then you’ll be missing out on Glenn Winhall’s inspired idea to bring a smoke machine and multiple fluorescent tubes into the MZR workshop. The resultant slightly spooky disco vibe is a visual feast. We hope you enjoy the video – perhaps let us know in the comments which other restomods you’d like to see Henry review in the future.

Tony and the Stay Tuned team travel to The Freedom Factory in Florida, to race in Cleetus McFarland’s 2.4 hours of LeMullets, the largest automotive influencer oval track competition in the world.

It’s WAY more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow, and it’s EVEN more fun when there are 15 other maniacs in slow cars trying to go faster than you! That’s the recipe for the 2.4 Hrs of LeMullets. 20 identically worn-out Crown Victorias racing at 10/10s around The Freedom Factory track. Watch Tony Angelo and Derek Bieri (from Vice Grip Garage,) team up to take a run at glory!

BMW’s M Division is on a roll. The M2 CS was brilliant, the M5 CS was bewitching, the reviews were effusive. Now, after an absence of almost 20 years, and in honor of M’s 50th birthday, BMW has brought back its most iconic badge of all: CSL. However, at first glance, the new G82 M4 CSL isn’t particularly ‘L,’ which stands for ‘lightweight.’ At a DIN curb weight of 1625kg or 3583lb, the new M4 is pretty chunky.

However, Catchpole wonders whether we should be so quick to judge. Since the badge doesn’t just represent lightweight, we decided that the new M4 should meet its predecessor; the amazing E46 M3 CSL. From the use of carbon fibre, to the extreme Michelin tyres, to the questionable gearboxes, to the tails of aquatic birds—the more you look at the two, the more there are interesting comparisons.

We hope you enjoy the film – there is some stunning FPV drone footage to feast your eyes on. And even if you’re more of a Porsche person, you will want to watch this video just to see Henry wrestle (fairly unsuccessfully) with a trio of helium balloons on a windy Welsh hillside. Idiot.

Everyone building a car has a budget, and the creative thinkers go a bit faster for every dollar spent–even if that happens to be putting a $128 Turbo, in a $1000 car.

Watch Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew scoop up a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII and add cheap turbo power. The Mark VIII has killer potential lurking in its 32V V8 and is often overlooked by Hot Rodders and tuners alike. We take the cheapest turbo money can buy, throw it on a very cheap V8 Lincoln, and let it eat! Will it explode? Will it work? Watch and see – let’s go fast for cheap!

In the world of fast estate cars, everyone is talking about the new BMW M3 Touring and Mercedes’ newly unveiled hybrid four-cylinder AMG C63 Wagon. This has clearly annoyed Audi, which has arguably been king of practical performance ever since the RS2, which it developed with Porsche back in the 1990s

So, to redress the balance, Audi has poached a bit of BMW’s naming strategy and produced the RS4 Avant Competition. Despite its twin-turbo V6 not having more power or torque this RS4 is quicker, doing 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and faster, with a maximum speed of 180mph. But even more interestingly it promises to be greater fun in the corners, thanks to a recalibrated quattro Sport differential, new steering, stiffer anti-roll bars and a lovely set of three-way adjustable coilovers.

This new RS Sport Suspension Pro allows the car to be dropped by up to 20mm which lends it an incredibly aggressive stance and should be great on track. But the worry is that it will also compromise the ride quality on the road. After all this is meant to be a practical and useable performance car that you could taking shopping when you’re not setting lap times.

To find out if it’s an improvement or now just a bit niche, Henry Catchpole puts the latest fast Audi Avant through its paces around town, in the hills and on the amazing Ascari race track in Southern Spain. He also puts a dog in the back. We hope you enjoy the film!

After sitting for 30 years, my 1974 Street Freak Firebird is up and running! We put together a killer 462 Stroker engine from a 1975 smog engine, cramming it full of the best parts from Butler Performance, and it’s time to see what it can do! It’s a time capsule from 1983, the raddest bass boat flake paint job, velour interior and 8-track player. It’s been a huge amount of work to get to this point but I’m so stoked this thing is a runner!!
