You can now purchase a fully electric version of the world’s most beautiful car

It appears that Jaguar Classic is re-defining the E in E-type. Following the success of its recent E-type Zero Concept, the company just announced plans to offer fully-electric versions of the iconic sports car to the general public. It probably didn’t hurt having Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drive off in one after the Royal Wedding, either.

While official pricing and availability have yet to be announced, we do know that the company will have fully restored electric conversions ready to purchase. More interesting is that Jaguar will install an EV drivetrain into an existing car in a process that is is non-invasive and fully reversible should you want to return your E-Type back to showroom spec.

What would a Jaguar be if it didn’t follow the signature trio of grace, space, and pace? Luckily, the E-type Zero has all three covered. These electrified versions receive a powertrain largely unchanged from Jaguar’s current all-electric I-PACE crossover. The freshly-installed battery pack and motor displace the area where the engine and transmission were previously housed. Surprisingly, the car’s handling should remain as sharp as ever, as overall weight and front-rear distribution are unchanged compared to the original inline-6.

What won’t go unchanged, however, is the thrust produced by the new driveline. While we’ll have to wait for the official figures, Jag Classic boasts that the car will have “quicker acceleration than the original Series 1 E-type.” It should have decent cruising range as well, with 40 kWh of battery on board.

European customers will be able to purchase an E-type Zero (or have theirs converted) directly from Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Coventry, England, starting in 2020. For those of us who live across the pond, a newly-announced facility in Savannah, Georgia, will be offering the car, along with a full suite of restoration services.
