Add a mini supercar to your fleet. Just don’t step on it.
This appears to be McLaren’s hybrid Senna
Through the P1 program, McLaren learned what it needs to know about track-focused hybrids, and with Senna-beating performance, the as-yet mysterious BC-03 could be the perfect poster car while McLaren rushes towards its goal of electrifying its entire lineup by 2025.
We may have just seen the bespoke commission unicorn… but McLaren won’t confirm at this point.
What we do know is this. In September of 2017, McLaren revealed a 1150-hp hybrid supercar in digital form called the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo concept. That electrified track special was created for the video game franchise only, but a year later, a McLaren spokesman confirmed to Pistonheads that MSO is indeed working on something very special for a selected few of its black book clients. This car would be the “bespoke commision” BC-03:
“BC-03 is a bespoke customer commission being created by McLaren Special Operations. The specifics of the project are confidential between MSO and its client.”
Then came the rumors from the inner circle that McLaren is only building five examples, likely based on the Senna, but boosted with a hybrid system. Additional speculation has suggested that the BC-03s would sport two seats instead of three, as in the upcoming Speedtails.
For now, we must settle for what appears to be BC-03 in digital and prototype form, leaked by spy.shots via Instagram.
We would love to see McLaren in the World Endurance Championship’s 2020 “hypercar class” alongside Toyota, Aston Martin, SCG and, potentially, Lamborghini. Whatever this leak may show, it sure looks to be a track monster based on the Senna, with an aero setup as ready for the WEC as any. Exciting times.
