Curvaceous DBS GT Zagato honors six decades of partnership with Aston Martin

Aston Martin just provided a glimpse of the upcoming DBS GT Zagato, and hot damn it’s gorgeous.

The car is one of two in the $7.93 million DBZ Centenary Collection celebrating the Italian coachbuilder’s 100th anniversary and its 60-year relationship with Aston Martin. The car, along with it’s centennial sibling, the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation, preview the road ahead for Aston Martin’s styling.

The GT Zagato is based on amazing DBS Superleggera, the most powerful car in Aston Martin’s current lineup. The renderings bring to mind the DB4 GT Zagato, the lightweight racing car introduced in 1960. The DBS GT Zagato features that Zagato signature double-bubble roof, a design trick originally created to accommodate a driver’s helmet. Here, the bubbles extend from the lip of the windshield to the tail of the car. Presumably there are cameras and video screens to let you see out of the back of the car, or perhaps the rear window in the rendering is just heavily tinted.

As with previous Zagato Aston Martins, the double-bubble theme is echoed on the hood of the DBS GT Zagato. Rear haunches accentuate the sporting aesthetics, and the Zagato gets a modern take on Aston Martin’s famous grille along with model-specific aluminum wheels.

Zagato plans to build just 19 DBS GTs, and each will be sold only as a pair with the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation. The DB4 GT is expected by the end of the year, with the DBS GT to follow next year.
