After the disappointment of 2020, which saw the cancelation of practically every major collector car event in the U.S., anticipation is already building for the 2021 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Adding to the fun will be the first-ever class of historic Indy Cars.
The annual California get-together of vintage race cars and racing enthusiasts returns August 12–15, 2021 at the legendary WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit. Applications are already being accepted at register.weathertechraceway.com for both the Motorsports Reunion and the Monterey Pre-Reunion scheduled for August 7–8.
The events attract some of the most authentic and historically significant race cars in the world, but Barry Toepke, director of marketing and communications at Laguna Seca, says the Monterey Motorsports Reunion goes beyond the cars.
“The experience is elevated by reconnecting with friends, meeting new people, and the likelihood of bumping into the many legendary drivers who annually attend,” Toepke says. “That’s what makes the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion so special and unlike any other in the world.”
Race cars in 14 different categories will descend upon Laguna Seca next summer:
- Pre-1920 Race Cars
- 1966–85 Masters Historic Formula One
- 1920–51 Racing Cars
- 1947–55 Sports Racing and GT
- 1955–64 GT
- 1963–66 GT over 2500cc
- 1973–81 FIA, IMSA, GT, GTX, GTU, AAGT
- FIA Manufacturers Championship
- 1981–91 IMSA GTO, GTP, Trans-Am
- 1955–61 Sports Racing under/over 2000cc
- 1961–66 GT under 2500cc
- 1966–72 Trans-Am
- 1983–2016 Masters Endurance Legends
- 1963–78 Indy Car
According to a press release from Laguna Seca, entry applications “will be reviewed to determine each car’s authenticity, provenance, and mechanical- and period-correctness to ensure it meets the strict criteria established since the event’s inception in 1974 … Faithfully adhering to authenticity is the defining tenet of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.”
Tickets for the event go on sale in December.
