Think the Ringbrothers 890-hp Camaro is cool? Meet its 8.52-liter UNKL
When it comes to SEMA, you know the restomodding masterminds at Ringbrothers will always come up with something that seems capable of pulling down the entire building. This year they came up with two such creations, a heavily modified Mustang called “UNKL” and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro known as “VALKYRJA.”
Not to be confused with Aston Martin’s 1160-horsepower Valkyrie, this 890-hp muscle car packs a 416-cubic-inch Wegner Motorsports LS3 with a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger on its top. The juice goes through a Bowler six-speed Tremec manual to a John’s Industries 9-inch rear end, while the chassis and suspension came from Detroit Speed Engineering. The list of modifications continues with a Flowmaster 44 Series exhausts and a custom body that required plenty of 3D scanning and CAD work. Yet with all those carbon fiber and machined metal bits put in the right places and finished in a custom BASF mix called “TOTOPKG Green,” the VALKYRJA speaks for itself.
As impressive as that may be, in case you’re a Mustang person, Ringbrothers would also like you to meet its “UNKL.”
Based on a Mach 1, this car’s body has been extended by an inch on each side with a mixture of carbon and steel panels. Under the hood, you find a 520-cu-in Jon Kaase Boss V-8 producing 700 hp. Ringbrothers uses same beefy Bowler-built Tremec six-speed as the VALKYRJA and pairs it with a QA1 carbon-fiber driveshaft. The soundtrack is amplified through a custom Flowmaster.
The UNKL uses Detroit Speed Engineering’s Aluma-Frame front suspension system with a cast-aluminum cradle, custom-tuned steering rack, tubular suspension arms, and custom adjustable RideTech coilovers. At the rear, it’s Detroit Speed’s QUADRALink suspension system with RideTech shocks. Front and rear sway bars are also from Detroit Speed, while the stopping power is provided by Baer’s rotors and 6S Extreme calipers. The list of speedy parts ends in forged HRE Wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires sized 295/35R-19 in the front and 345/30R-20 in the rear.
The UNKL sports a unique shade called “Big Boss Blue,” with billet taillights and engine-bay accessories, as well as reshaped bumpers and trim. Inside, it’s a combination of Recaro seats, an Ididit steering column, gauges by Classic Instruments, and a Vintage Air Gen IV Magnum evap kit.
