Porsche 911 Carrera S and 4S now available with a manual gearbox

Porsche’s standard PDK double-clutch automatic may grant you better lap times, but if you also believe 911 Carrera S and 4S coupés and cabriolets were hardly designed to break circuit records and you want the shifting up to your own damn self, now, there’s the no-cost manual option.

With the stick come seven speeds instead of eight, and a mechanical limited-slip differential replacing the fully variable electronically-controlled one of the PDK cars. Also standard is the Sport Chrono Package, which includes dynamic drivetrain mounts, PSM sport mode, and rev-matching software. Specified with the seven-speed manual, the hardtop Carrera S still weighs a hefty 3298 pounds and reaches 60 mph in around 4 seconds. Top speed remains at over 190 mph.

Since the stick is a no-cost option, such a Carrera S still starts at $113,300, with the manual 4S Cabriolet retailing for $133,400. Add $1350 for delivery, processing and handling fees to both, with the manual 992s scheduled to pop up at U.S. dealers in Spring 2020.
