Savor these sci-fi heroes of the silver screen with Petersen Museum’s “Hollywood Dream Machines” exhibit

Starting May 4, 2019, the Petersen Automotive Museum will be hosting “Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy.” The exhibit features more than 40 cars and trucks, plus costumes, props, models, and blueprints and original renderings from classic and current-day movies and video games with futuristic settings.

Among the vehicles on display will be a DeLorean time machine from the Back To The Future series of films, the Warthog from the Halo video game, the 2035 Audi RSQ from I, Robot, Iron Man’s Audi R8, Bumblebee from the Transformers series, the Weyland Industries RT01 Group Transport from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, and multiple Batmobiles.

Some of the other movies represented in the exhibit are Black Panther, The Hunger Games, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ghost In The Shell, Demolition Man, and Blade Runner.

The show is being underwritten by Audi and Microsoft and will feature an immersive “mixed reality” experience called Worlds Reimagined, giving a different perspective on the Warthog and BTTF DeLorean via Microsoft’s HoloLens.

In connection with the year-long display, on May 3rd, the Petersen will be hosting the auto industry focused Future of the Automobile Conference. The following day, prior to the opening, a for-media-only panel discussion will feature notable producers, designers, and vehicle coordinators from the motion picture industry. They’ll discuss the backstory on notable film cars, how futuristic movie cars are made, and what they think is coming down the road.

Once the display opens to the general public, you’ll be able to enjoy “Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy” with regular admission to the museum ($16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $11 for ages 4–17). The opening reception, which will have live entertainment and cocktails, is $75. VIP access is $165, which includes the early preview, the opening reception, and an exclusive book about the exhibit. There is also a $200 bundle that gets you access to the reception and the May 3rd Future of the Automobile Conference. You can purchase tickets for the opening celebrations at the museum website.

Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy runs at the Petersen Automotive Museum through March 15, 2020.
