Mini Cooper JCW GP to go electric
The pocket rocket Mini Cooper John Cooper Works GP looks set to be electrified, if footage from a BMW design film is to be believed.
In a bizarre mockumentary for the iNext, BMW has revealed sketches for a high-performance version of the electric Mini Cooper E. The film mainly attempts to capitalize on the negative online response to recent BMW designs, in a form of self-trolling, but look closely and you’ll catch a glimpse of a designer working on a Mini Cooper E with all the aerodynamic accoutrements of the JCW GP. In the film, the designer hurriedly covers up his work, but clearly BMW leaked this deliberately to gauge the public’s reaction.

The sketch shows a car wearing Mini Cooper E wheels alongside the large rear wing and side skirts of the JCW GP. No doubt these add-ons will aid downforce, but increased drag will surely be the enemy of EV range. The Mini Cooper E isn’t exactly well-endowed with driving range as it is, so what will Mini do to make a hot version usable anywhere outside of a kart track?
