Art of Racing in the Rain trailer is a high-speed rollercoaster of emotion
Racing has been written about to no end, but The Art of Racing in the Rain brought a fresh perspective to print. Written from the perspective of a racing driver’s dog, the book is now a feature film. The first look was released today by 20th Century Fox.
The Garth Stein novel follows the life of Denny Swift, a fictional racing car driver and BMW salesman in the Pacific Northwest, as seen through the eyes of his canine friend, Enzo. According to the trailer, the movie will blend hardcore racing scenes with the story of Denny’s life off-track.
The production company behind the film was also behind Marley and Me, so if nothing else you are in for an emotional rollercoaster. Swift is played by Milo Ventimiglia (of This is Us), and in the interest of getting the racing scenes correct, producer Patrick Dempsey and second-unit director Jeff Zwart bring years of on-track experience.
Will it live up to the book? Fans will find out August 9. If the trailer is any indication you might want to bring a few tissues to dry your eyes. And for the record, this might be the first time that any woman ever called Kevin Costner a dog.
