Auction Results: Mecum Dallas 2012

Mecum Auctions returned to Dallas for the second year and significantly bettered the inaugural event’s impressive numbers. In all, 779 of 1,167 cars sold (67%) for a total of $31M, marking the fourth time this year Mecum has exceeded a sales total of $30M. The 2011 auction totaled $20.5M on the sale of 77% of the 649 automotive lots offered.

The auction was well-stocked with some of the high-water American muscle cars, including a Ram Air Trans Am from 1969 and a 1969 Yenko Camaro, as well as Corvettes of every stripe. Some of the more interesting sales weren’t of muscle cars, however, including an incredibly strong $161,500 for a beautifully restored 1956 Lincoln Premiere convertible and nearly $200,000 for a fully optioned 2005 Ford GT. Another notable sale was of a somewhat forgotten muscle car. A flawless 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 convertible with Tri-Power netted $76,320, which was $20,000 above top guide price. While the price paid exceeded other recent sales, the car seemed absolutely worth it.
