Meet Our Crew: Camille Johnston, Marine Licensed Insurance Agent and Underwriter

Water has always played a big role in Camille Johnston’s life. She grew up in Roseburg, Ore., a small town in the Umpqua Valley, and spent most of her summers on the river kayaking or tubing. Her grandfather taught her how to waterski, towing her behind his Glasspar, and since the ocean was only a short drive away, they frequently went crabbing there.

In 2002, Camille and her husband, Shaun, moved to Traverse City, Mich., which is home to Hagerty and, much like Oregon, a great place to enjoy the outdoors. The Johnstons enjoy canoeing down the nearby Boardman River, hanging out on the innumerable lakes in northern Michigan and spending time with their two dogs, Maggie and JakJak. Shaun is a woodworker and has passed along his appreciation for fine woodworking. So it’s no surprise that Camille ended up at Hagerty, where wooden boats are revered. “The beautiful classic wooden boats that became the foundation for Hagerty’s business are truly works of art,” she said.

After working in the sales department at a local resort, Camille began her Hagerty career on the auto side of the business in 2011. It wasn’t long before Hagerty realized she belonged on the marine team, however, and Camille’s transition was an easy one.

“It’s great to work for a company that really cares, and to work with so many talented and genuine individuals,” said Camille, who hopes to own a classic Lyman someday. “The marine team has been incredibly welcoming and I look forward to many fun summers.”
