27-foot 1956 Chris-Craft Sedan Cruiser

Boat summary: 27-foot 1956 Chris-Craft Sedan Cruiser

This was a very popular Chris-Craft model, with 750 produced from 1955-57 (hull numbers SC-27-001 to SC-27-750). It was offered with several engine options of both single and twin configurations.

This particular boat recently underwent an extensive restoration that totaled over $100,000. Work included rebuilt engines and props, mostly new bottom frames and re-chromed hardware, along with new keel, bottom, top planks, cabin, upholstery, teak in cockpit sole, shafts, wiring, head, fridge, stove and microwave. The boat is finished in seven coats of varnish, has excellent paint and fresh copper bronze bottom paint. No expense was spared and no aspect was overlooked.

Sold for $43,000 at the 2011 Antique Boat Museum Auction (offered at no reserve).

Market Summary: Prices are all over the map for cruisers in this category (1950s, 26-36 feet); current listings for this model and like-boats of similar design range from $3,000 to $265,000. Although cruisers of this size were the most mass-produced, few survive in average to above-average condition. That’s because they’re a great value proposition for too many inexperienced owners who love the “look” of the old wood cruiser. The hammer price of $43,000is a great deal for a boat that has had all issues taken care of and, with proper care and maintenance, will be set for the next 40-50 years.
