Photo Gallery: North American International Auto Show 2016

As highs and lows go in the world of annual auto shows, 2016 can be considered a trough year for the North American International Auto Show, held each January at the Cobo Center in Detroit. Of course, it would be difficult to top 2015’s much-touted premieres of the Ford GT and Shelby GT350R, the Acura NSX and Lincoln Continental Concept.

Have no fear, though. While there were no major surprises at this year’s show, there was still plenty of eye candy on display. One highlight included the all-new BMW M2, a nod to the marque’s well-known classic compact sports-performance car, the BMW 2002 Turbo. With the M2’s dynamic styling cues and a 0-60 time of around 4 seconds, BMW is aiming to appeal to performance-loving millennials, though its $51,700 starting price may prove intimidating to some.

On the heels of last year’s unveiling of its Continental Concept vehicle, Lincoln displayed its Continental production car, an elegant luxury sedan that stayed mainly true to the concept in terms of styling. The designers didn’t skimp on power, either: the Continental features a new 400hp 3-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. Production will stay close to home in Michigan.
