2009 Car Shows Not to Miss

Hagerty’s offices are located in Traverse City, Michigan, where we’ve shared an exceptionally long and cold winter season with most of the upper Midwest. Now, it’s not that we don’t enjoy a bit of skiing or snowmobiling, and maybe even a little ice fishing, but 2009 came in like a lion and hasn’t changed its mood since, so we thought it was time to look forward to some warm weather events you really shouldn’t miss.

Spring kicks off with the Mecum Kansas City Auction March 20-21. Dana’s crew always has a great fleet of American Muscle cars, and sprinkles in a few sports cars and customs as well. Visit www.mecumauction.com for details.

And the hot rods and customs will be out in force in Pleasanton, California for the Goodguys All American Get-Together. Goodguys events are always a pleasure to attend, with great cars and tons of entertainment.

If wooden boats are your thing, Mount Dora, Florida is the place to be March 26-29. Expect a diverse display of fine antique watercraft, along with the town’s Antique Festival right downtown.

For mixing great wooden boats with fine motorcars, there is none better that the Keels and Wheels event in Seabrook, Texas on May 1-4. The Lakewood Yacht club hosts them all, along with a wonderful auction run by Worldwide Auctioneers on the May 2nd.

The folks at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina have teamed up once again with the AACA Hornet’s Nest Region to host the Food Lion Auto Fair on April 2-5, 2009. With over 80 car clubs represented, the car corral runs nearly all the way around the famed track surface, and the vendors not only fill the infield but spill outside the track as well. Expect a ton of cars, great hospitality, a Tom Mack Auction, and AACA judging activities.

Also in April is an event that has become an institution in Pennsylvania – Spring Carlisle on April 22-26. The Miller family runs a world-class event, with 80+ acres of swap meet vendors, a huge car corral, and a growing auction onsite.

Finish the Spring season with a couple of great auction traditions and an AACA National Event – Dana Mecum’s 22nd Annual Original Spring Classic on May 13-17 in Indianapolis, always a huge event, and then the granddaddy of major collector car auctions, the 18th Annual Auburn Spring Motorfair, scheduled for May 28-31, 2009 at the 480 acre Kruse Auction Park in Auburn, Indiana.

Catch some early Season touring at the AACA Eastern Spring Meet, scheduled for Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on May 28-30. Expect 300-400 early cars for judging, with many great tours of the historic Gettysburg area also scheduled.

There’s no time like the present to get your winter car chores out of the way, so you’ll be ready to roll into all of the great spring collector car events. For more details, and many more events listed, visit our event calendar. Drive safely and have fun!
