A 1956 Ferrari 860 Monza race car and a 2003 prediction

1956 Ferrari 860 Monza race car S/N 0604M    Red with black racing interior. One of the great, 3.5-liter four-cylinder cars pivotal to Ferrari’s winning of the World Championship in 1956. Superb history. Still has original engine, many original body panels (extremely unusual for a much-raced car). Restored in France ten years ago, used lightly since.

SOLD FOR $2,057,001 at the RM Auction in Monterey, CA, on August 16, 2003.

While high-end collectors prefer the 12-cylinder Ferraris of the same era, they cost three times as much, and in some situations, simply don’t perform as well. This is an extremely important car, one of three built, and its value will go nowhere but up.

12-month prediction: The hard part in buying this car will be getting the owner to part with it, no matter how much you offer. In 2005, try $2,500,000 and see what he says.
