Teal with black vinyl. 54,655 miles. Full console, 289ci V-8, 4-barrel, A-code, dual exhaust, power steering. A few parking lot dings, but overall good paint. Very clean interior, shiny chrome. Raised white-letter BF Goodrich Radial T/As. In general, appears to have led a good life. SOLD AT $12,200.

The early Mustang pecking order puts convertibles at the top, then fastbacks, and coupes at the bottom. Fastbacks are rare, with just 77,079 built in ’65 compared to 409,260 coupes. This car could have brought $15,000 without surprising, so let’s call it well-bought. Sold at Mecum Auction; Del Mar, CA; 4/5/02.

Silver with white vinyl. 60,027 miles. 289-c.i. V-8, automatic, air conditioning, Rally-Pac, GT equipment including exhaust and steering wheel. New power top. Lots of scrapes and chips on older paint. Right front fender repainted. New pony interior, some bubbling on door hinge. Is now, and might always be, just a driver. SOLD AT $15,225.

Will there ever be a car that brings back more happy memories than the’65 – ’66 Mustang? Ford just got it right with the long hood, short rear deck design. And with a peppy V-8, these cars can really move. A great ’66 convertible can bring $30,000. This car, with all its flaws, was priced just right.
