Top 10 sales at Amelia Island 2010

Despite rumors to the contrary, there’s plenty of demand for two auctions and a concours on Amelia Island in mid-March. This year, Gooding made a splash with its inaugural auction, RM continued its record of success at the Ritz, and the beautiful cars at the concours dropped a record number of jaws.

RM had a very strong sale Saturday, selling more than $19 million – very close to a record for an Amelia Island sale (they did $21M in 2006) – with an impressive sell-through rate of 88 percent. A lot of people were worried that with the addition of the Gooding auction that the results would suffer, but there was no evidence of oversaturation of cars. Gooding had a strong sale Friday totaling just over $16.1 million, with 58 of 71 lots sold. While some lots sold for a bit less than the pre-sale estimates, Dave Kinney of Hagerty’s Cars That Matter thought that the prices realized were in line with the market. In his words, “they sold for retail price.”
