2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt #1 brings $300,000 at Barrett-Jackson

If we’ve learned anything over the last week, it’s that America’s passion for Bullitt and McQueen’s green 1968 Ford Mustang is alive and well. While the original movie car is not expected to be up for sale anytime soon, someone just coughed up $300,000 at Barrett-Jackson for the first 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt to roll off the Flat Rock production line.

Special-edition Mustang Bullitt models are nothing new—Ford produced previous-generation models first in 2001 and then in 2008. As with those versions, the Mustang Bullitt formula means more power, five-spoke Torq-Thrust-inspired wheels, and of course a splash of dark Highland Green paint. The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt lumps in the GT Premium and Performance packages, which among other goodies adds a black-tipped exhaust, performance suspension, and a top-grade interior, but you’ll also find this special-edition has a few other surprises. Chief among them is 15 addition ponies for a total of 475 hp, cue-ball shifter, unique badging, as well as a Bullitt-themed start-up sequence on the LCD instrument cluster.

No doubt 300-large is a lot of scratch for what’s essentially a jazzed-up Mustang GT, but the car’s sale will ultimately do a lot of good. Proceeds from Barrett-Jackson auction will benefit Boys Republic, a non-profit school geared toward helping troubled young people. Way back when, Boys Republic helped Steve McQueen when he fell on hard times as a kid, so it’s a fitting beneficiary.
