“Bullitt” Tops Voting for Hollywood

In anticipation of the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie in which the beloved American icon General Lee will be a primary focus, Hagerty Insurance has launched an online survey to further inquire about America’s love affair with the automobile and its most exciting Hollywood car chases. The Steve McQueen classic Bullitt was the overwhelming winner as voters endorsed it as the most memorable car chase in movie history. Collecting more than 40 percent of the total votes cast during a one-month period, Bullitt out-polled its nearest rival Gone in 60 Seconds (the 2000 version) by nearly a 5 to 1 margin.

The Top 10 vote-getters in Hagerty’s poll of Hollywood’s Greatest Car Chases included:

  1. Bullitt
  2. Gone in 60 Seconds – 2000 version
  3. Smokey and the Bandit
  4. The Blues Brothers
  5. Gone in 60 Seconds – the 1974 version
  6. The French Connection
  7. Ronin
  8. Vanishing Point
  9. The Italian Job – (2003 version)
  10. The Fast and the Furious

“Many of us embrace movies involving legendary car chases,” says McKeel Hagerty, president of Hagerty Insurance. “This summer another iconic pop culture movie, Dukes of Hazzard, promises to deliver more reels of automotive mayhem that should delight moviegoers who share our enthusiasm for fast wheels and exceptional car chases.”

Other notable favorites that did not quite make the top 10 include the famed racing movie, Days of Thunder, starring Tom Cruise as well as the fast-paced Ducati motorcycle chase scene in The Matrix Reloaded. Voters could not forget the heart-pounding chases Jason Bourne endured in 2004’s Bourne Supremacy as the exciting sequel just missed the top 10.
