Go ahead, build a Chevy Colorado ZR2 race truck

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is a seriously capable off-roader, but owners are chasing more than “very capable” since a ZR2 entered the “Best in the Desert” race series and Baja 1000 pre-run. It was the Hall Racing team that built and ran the truck for two years, a tough test for even hardened, purpose-built trucks.

The good news: you can now buy racing parts that were developed for the ZR2 over those two years. If these performance bits can survive that kind of abuse, they’ll be just fine for your weekend off-roading.

“Off-road racing is a brutal test of a vehicle, especially its suspension components,” said Mark Dickens, executive director of Chevrolet Performance variants, parts and accessories and motorsports. “Over two years, Chad mercilessly pushed these ZR2 parts to the limit for the ultimate in development and validation.”

You can purchase the 15 different parts individually or as a package directly from Chevrolet Performance. Items focus on suspension, with parts ranging from a differential cover to long travel leaf spring and shock combination. The shocks were developed in conjunction with Multimatic and can provide a 15-percent increase in front suspension travel and 10-percent increase in the rear.

With the exception of a few, most of these new parts are hidden once installed. Meaning you could create a sleeper ZR2 that’s visibly stock but underneath ready to storm the Baja 1000. But you wouldn’t do such a sneaky thing, would you?
