Equipment
Cardinal Red over gray cloth. 2.7-liter, 150-hp L-4, 5-speed manual. 4-wheel drive with 2-speed transfer case. Extended cab, Pioneer cassette stereo, spray-in bedliner, factory steel wheels, and Dunlop Grandtrek tires.
Condition
Unrestored original. An early American-built Tacoma (Toyota simply called it the “Toyota Pickup” until 1995). Showing 22,947 miles in the photos. With the same family from new until being acquired by the seller. Other than light and forgivable age under the hood and under the body, the only thing to knock is the lack of air conditioning. Early Tacomas are notoriously indestructible and cheap to own, and this one is barely broken in. Located in Oregon.
Market commentary
Maybe manufacturers should take note here. The cheap, simple little work truck is largely a thing of the past, but recent sales of low-mileage Toyota trucks suggest there is still plenty of demand for basic utility and affordable off-road fun. Both Marty McFly-era pickups of the ’80s and the newer Tacomas from the ’90s have gotten noticeably more expensive over the past few years and are staying that way. Including this one, three have sold in the $16,000 range on Bring a Trailer in the past few weeks, and a few third-gen 4Runners have brought over 20 grand. Not chump change, but not a bad value compared to any new pickup out there, either.
