Equipment
Ford Cosworth turbocharged V8, center lock wheels, carbon fiber tub, front and rear wings. Ex Hemelgarn Racing driven by Tom Sneva and Michael Andretti, raced at Indy in 1987 and 88. Described as a fresh engine. Minor chips where front wing mounts, Gaffers tape on leading edge of right side pod. Recent mechanical restoration with drivetrain appearing as new. Interesting, but what to do with it
Market commentary
1980s and newer Indycars receive little love from buyers, which is undeserved. Theyre usable historic racers, but it may have to do with their mediocre looks, high maintenance or the fact that the powers that be in American open wheel racing infought and squabbled their lucrative enterprise into the ditch and few people care any more. Whatever the case, this well sorted March could only muster a bid a full $10,000 less than the high bid turned down at Mecum Indy 2012, and the consignor again returned home with the March in tow.
