Equipment
1775cc/200hp, 5-speed, white wheels, Michelin TRX tires, original Blaupunkt cassette, fire extinguisher.
Condition
#3 Good
Runs and drives well. Flaws not noticeable to passersby. Most common condition.
One of 200 built. Represented with $200,000 worth of work since the consignor acquired the car in 2022. Several cracks and scratches on the front as well as on the engine cover. Some scuffs on the wheels. Dull exterior plastic. Well-kept interior. The 3431 km (2132 miles) odometer reading and the massive pile of recent shop bills are reassuring, but cosmetically this Group B road car looks fairly used.
Market commentary
Of the various 1980s Group B-era rally monsters from Audi, Lancia, Ford and Peugeot, the 205 T16 took full advantage of Group B's regulations (or lack thereof), and was the most successful with two championships to its credit. The road-going versions (200 units required for homologation) of the Peugeot were also less bonkers than some of their rivals but also the most civilized and the most like an actual production car. In general, that makes them the least expensive ticket to Group B ownership and probably the smartest choice. This one sold for $198,000 at this auction back in 2017, but since then the market has grown for Group B cars, it has received extensive servicing, and it has added just 2318 km to its odometer. Recent 205 T16 sales have consistently been in the $300K range, so a $368K final price is strong but not insane.
