Market commentary
Back in 1993 I saw this Merak SS cross the block at the World Classic Rick Cole auction in Newport Beach. It was in just about the same condition then as it is now and attracted bids of only $30,000. Since then its been an RM Monterey favorite, selling for $26,675 in 2000, $25,025 in 2002 and $33,000 in 2007. Its condition has stayed about the same, as has its value ... until now. The Merak SS market is pretty thin, making it possible to accept this transaction as market, especially as the Merak SSs competition, the Dino 246, has exploded well beyond $100,000. Still, this is a lot to pay for a Merak SS.
