Equipment
Cromodora wheels, performance exhaust.
Condition
#3 Good
Runs and drives well. Flaws not noticeable to passersby. Most common condition.
Appears clean at first but flaws show. The passenger’s seat has two splits, one of which is glued shut. One hole and a small split in the driver’s seat. Some weather stripping has some unglued and is falling off. Original paint with minimal wear apart from a few chips on the bottom front lip and nose. Tidy underbody. Flaws aside, the 13,068 miles showing are represented as actual, and it’s unusual to see an X1/9 in almost anything but ratty condition, so this car is still impressive.
Market commentary
Like the '79 Mazda RX-7 Bonhams sold the day before, this X1/9 is an objectively mediocre example of a car sold in quantity worldwide, but it’s special in that few original ones are left in reasonably well-preserved, low-mile condition. This result was even more staggering than the RX-7. (It’s also, incidentally, almost exactly the same as the MSRP on a brand-new 124 Spider.) In 2007, this car hammered not sold at a $5000 high bid at Spring Auburn.
