Equipment
2419cc/195hp, 5-speed, Cromodora wheels, power windows, air conditioning, later Alpine cassette, Daytona seats.
Condition
#4 Fair
Has visible flaws to the naked eye. Runs fine, but could use mechanical or cosmetic attention.
Offered from the family of racer and writer, Jack May. One of the more famous Dinos in the world, this is the car in which May and his co-driver Rick Cline won the 1975 Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (aka the Cannonball Run), making it from New York to Los Angeles in a little under 36 hours. In original condition. The paint is very cracked and crazed. There is significant rust bubbling at the bottom of the driver's door near the fender. The alloy wheels show aging and oxidation. The underbody is likewise aged and old, and the interior shows wear from stretched and creased seats to foggy gauge lenses. Rough, but original and has a great story behind all the wear and tear.
Market commentary
Buyers, especially ones at this price point, are generally shying away from less-than-perfect cars lately. But they will pay up for a car with good history, and maybe no Dino has a story as cool as the Dino that won the Cannonball Run. A $660,000 final price is condition #1, concours-quality money for a 246 GTS, so the outlaw accolades made all the difference here.
