Equipment
Chrome spoke Borranis, Alpine cassette. Rebodied for Luigi Chinetti after accident damage with characteristic edgy Michelotti flair and extravagance. Fair old repaint, good interior. Chassis repainted, wheel arch edges painted over old undercoat. Otherwise original and showing its age. Wrinkled dash top, soiled interior, missing its horn button. Tired and scruffy.
Market commentary
Reported sold by RM at Monterey last August for exactly the same price but somewhere between here and there my opinion of its condition has gone down a whole lot. Its odometer shows only a single additional mile, so its not from use. Its something of a paradox: a real Daytona Spyder, with one off custom coachwork by a recognized name and designer. Both the body and (particularly) the interior look, however, like a TR7 on steroids, recalling everything bad about 70s style. Two transactions at the same amount in seven months pretty clearly defines the markets evaluation of this Daytonas value.
