Equipment
2675/170hp Maserati V6, automatic, wheel covers, Michelin XWX tires, pushbutton cassette stereo, power windows.
Condition
#3 Good
Runs and drives well. Flaws not noticeable to passersby. Most common condition.
Recent engine overhaul. Long time part of a private collection. Rough older paint with light scratches throughout. Lots of chips and scratches around he edge of the hood. Very tired, lightly scratched bumpers. Somewhat beat up wheels and wheel covers. Three small dents behind passenger's side door. One took off paint and has been touched up. Chips at the back of the door edges. Interior is in much better shape with plush seats, minimal wear to the upholstery, shiny and even dash and clean switchgear. Used but dry and clean underneath. An unusual combination of terrible outside appearance with a really quite good interior. New clutch, exahust and steering rack as well as a brake and oil and cooling system service are reassuring, but not completely so.
Market commentary
A tremendously competent grand tourer but also tremendously complicated and not for the faint of heart or those without the rare Citroen technician nearby. The issues and idiosyncratic nature of the SM makes it hard to find a market for them, but this one did and brought a generous price considering the appearance issues. The seller should be happy that Russo and Steele set up the right atmosphere to realize this SM's potential.
