Market commentary
This and the aged and neglected Mark V sedan from Mr. Strauss barn which preceded it reinforced the provenance of the star of the show, the Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, which brought a positively huge price nearly double Christies already generous high estimate. This XKE is trash but can probably be parted out at a modest return for the hours invested in salvaging saleable bits from it with the chassis plate used to legitimize a C or D type replica to the DMV. It served its purpose as a marketing tool.
