Equipment
RHD. Started life as a 512S driven by Andretti, Ickx, Merzario, Oliver, Schetty and Giunti with indifferent results. Converted by Ferrari to the first 512M (modificata) with firsts at Kyalami and Imola. Then completely revamped by Ferrari to 7 liter 712 Can Am with modest success for Ferrari and NART. Restored for Obrist in late 80s, with 5 liter 512 type engine. Cosmetics show use and age. Definitely not a showcar, and not even a particularly presentable historic race car.
Market commentary
Sold by Christies at Tarrytown in April 2000 for $1,601,000 in condition comparable with its appearance today, i.e., rather old and used. Subsequently historic raced in England and Europe. With its 5 liter engine an owner could create 512S and 512M bodies and quite legitimately race it in all kinds of events, but it will apparently require refilling the current owners checking account to do so. At the low estimate or anything close it is a sound value requiring only a little imagination to realize its potential.
