Equipment
427cid/430ho L88, M22 4-speed, side exhaust, Firestone red line tires.
Condition
#3 Good
Runs and drives well. Flaws not noticeable to passersby. Most common condition.
One of the 116 L88s built for 1969, the package’s final year. Wavy bumper chrome and rough paint with cracks, chips and crazing all over the hood, tail and doors. Several dings on the side exhaust. Lightly pitted door handles. Windshield is delaminating at the bottom. Slightly dirty engine bay, and dirty underbody. Aged switchgear and upholstery. A genuine L88, but unimpressive presentation and with a non-original drivetrain.
Market commentary
Built for three short years in small numbers (20 in 1967, 80 in '68, 116 in '69) and never actively promoted, the L88 package was essentially competition equipment stuffed into a street car and it quickly became legendary. It's not that uncommon to see a solid, matching numbers '68 or '69 L88 sell for over $400K or $500K, but even with this car's shortcomings, $132K for it is surprisingly low. It's one of the lowest prices we've seen for an L88 at any point in recent memory. It did have a reserve, though, so the seller can't be too bothered, and for someone on the hunt for a real-deal L88 who doesn't mind some caveats, this was a great opportunity.
