Equipment
396/350hp, 4-speed, rally wheels, dual mirrors, pushbutton AM/FM radio, floor shifter and center console, power steering, power top, power brakes, newer sealed battery, 4.10 12-bolt rear end.
Condition
Represented as 45,349 miles from new. Good repaint. Bumpers are excellent and unscratched. Brightwork is good other than the simulated hood vents that have some chips and oxidization. The window trim has some age and scratching, and a few dings and scratches around the top's rear trim above the trunk area. The top itself is in good shape with a few wrinkles from folding. Interior was restored, but the dash pad has a hairline crack above the gauges. The door panels look older as well and may be original. Engine bay is clean and correct other than a missing one of two power steering belts. Underbody is well restored. Clean with no leaks. A well done body-on restoration finished this year. Done for enjoyment rather than show.
Market commentary
Done to pleasing and attractive standards, but how does a moderately priced SS 396 survive multiple owners with 45,349 miles after 47 years? It begs comprehensive, let alone credibility. This isn't a quarter-mile campaigner [if it were, the consignor would be making that point in 36-point type.] It's just a car and you and I know its odometer has turned over oh so many times to get to the 45,349 now showing. The Auburn Spring bidders showed their usual discrimination with this result, which makes perfect sense.
