Equipment
Sportomatic, Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, gold brightwork, tinted glass.
Condition
Numbers matching. Showing 22,729 miles. Almost completely original other than a repainted front bumper. Very good paint, brightwork and interior. Has to be one of the best cars with a Sportmatic out there, including restorations.
Market commentary
Car and Driver said of the semi-automatic Sportomatic gearbox, 'we understand the reasons for it, but we disagree and we don't like it', while Road & Track said that a car equipped with one "sounds very much like a GM city bus'. Sportomatic-equipped 911s were quite rare in period and even rarer now, though, and apparently at least two Porsche collectors in the room wanted a piece of this chapter in Porsche history. This car is also probably the best original car equipped with a Sportomatic around, which at least partly explains this shocking result, which is over twice what other ordinary '68 911s could expect to bring.
