Equipment
427 430(!)hp L88, M20 4 speed, F41 suspension and all the other good stuff. One of three built for Dayto 1968 by Dick Guldstrand for James Garners American Intertiol Racing team. DNF at Dayto and replaced thereafter by Lola T70s. Acquired by the seller from the son of the second owner, Gene Cormany, in 1973 and raced some more before passing through yet more racers until it ended up back with the seller in the 80s. Freshly race prepared and cosmetically gorgeous.
Market commentary
The crowning moment came when it was driven onto the auction block by Dick Guldstrand who then was given the microphone to go bench racing. The cars AIR Team racing history is insignificant and its subsequent history is of little intertiol significance but its reception here at Quail in the aftermath of the Motorsports Gathering was immediate and the first of several important racing Corvette transactions this weekend. This is about a third the price of a good GT history racing Ferrari, which was true in 1968, too. Fair enough.
