Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

10 spoke wheels with 7.75x15 Firestone Thunderbolt narrow whitewall tires, Rally Pac gauges underdash plus Stewar Warner oil temperature gauge, woodgrain steering wheel, no console, push button radio, rollbar, 4 point belts, grille mounted high beams.

Condition

Special GT500 built with 427 engine for a marketing gimmick with Goodyear, testing skinny tires Later drag raced and neglected but then found and restored to as tested configuration Good paint, chrome and interior Highly original and sympathetically cosmetically restored and preserved

Market commentary

A single purpose GT500 with a 427 GT40 engine put together for a street tire test promotion. No noteworthy accomplishments after circling the Goodyear high speed test circle for 500 miles at 142mph. $1.3 million is a lot to pay for this car and its history.
