Equipment
This Ghibli is unique in several ways, not least that it was ordered from the Maserati factory with a 4.9 liter engine during a time when production Ghiblis were equipped with 4.7 liter motors, the only 4.9 liter Ghibli which does not have a smog pump and emission controls. Its buyer was the famous designer Brooks Stevens and it has been in the Stevens family until recently, displayed in the Steven Museum in Wisconsin. It is believed to be the first or second Ghibli imported into the U.S., is completely original and has only 12,000 original miles, a rare and very important time capsule with a significant ownership history and provenance.
Market commentary
Didnt arrive in time for the auction and sold on the basis of its photos and catalog description, which if thorough described a remarkable automobile with unique history in nearly time capsule condition. The result appropriately handicapped the uncertainty and indicate just how well it might have done had it made the show. An important car bought for a reasonable price.
