Chrome wire wheels, 3 carbs, original AM FM. $100,000 restoration to better than new condition with exceptional bodywork, fits, gaps and finish. Just about as perfect as an E type gets. Steve Mattes collection.

Market commentary

Auctioneers sometimes say, If we gave you the car you couldnt restore it like this for the amount bid, and thats demonstrably true in this case. This is a terrific E type, bought for an appropriate price. The buyer was underbidder on the Daytona (Lot 270) from the same consignor. This is one very satisfying consolation prize.
