Equipment
Fair paint, dull aluminum, good interior. One of 31 road spec GT40s built, known history from new and only 3,137 miles showing on the odometer, in all probability the total covered. Upgraded with Weber carburetors and Halibrand alloy wheels. Restored at least once, retaining the origil interior and now returned to its origil color. As good as a barely used old GT40 can be.
Market commentary
Reported sold last year by RM in London for $2,000,992 (GBP 968,000), which makes both the estimate range and the reported post block result here (GBP 782,800 with commission) a bit hard to fathom. According to RM the London sale unwound and RM put a deal together, including this transaction, which ended up not costing anyone any money. It probably cost a car or three at very modest values, though.
