Equipment
First with Surtees Parkes and Parkes Scarfiotti at Monza and Spa respectively in 1966, DNF at Le Mans; updated to P3/4 412P configuration for 1967, third at Daytona, DNF at Monza and Le Mans, then converted to Can Am (no roof) and driven by Scarfiotti for NART without success. One of only three P3s built.
Condition
Restored by Symbolic in 1997-98 to P3 berlinetta configuration, reportedly using an original P3 roof panel and other parts patterned off David Piper's car. Decent paint, new seats. Recent use in historic events shows on the car but also that its ready for anything.
Market commentary
Subject of serious bidding between an unidentified cell phone person in the room and the RM Symbolic group. Eventually purchased by RM, possibly in order to close the loop on a complicated multi car deal involving the green ex-UDT Laystall 250 GTO (3505GT) displayed in the Doubletree lobby. The 330 P3 is, even without exceptional racing successes, one of the prettiest sports racing cars ever built and will always be sought by collectors if only to contemplate its voluptuous curves; the motor car equivalent of Gina Lollobrigida, and the contours never sag, although in both cases a little cosmetic reconstruction is sometimes necessary.
