Equipment
Chrome spoke Borranis, blackwall tires, Becker Mexico cassette. Good repaint and older interior, sound chrome. Old undercoat on chassis. Tidy and clean but not pristine engine. A great driver and a very presentable and usable lightly used car. Ferrari Classiche certified.
Market commentary
Sold for $160,286 at RMs Monterey auction in 1998, then for $600,529 a year ago at RMs auction at the Ferrari factory in Maranello. This looks like the crater that some Ferrari analysts have been predicting since 1998 or so, but there is more behind the numbers than appears on the surface. This transaction is Euros 345,600. The Maranello transaction was Euros 385,000 (both including commission), so most of the great gulp was avoided by Amelias fortunate (or very astute) seller who played the forex market skillfully by buying in strong Euros and selling in strong dollars. It still hurts, particularly after commissions, but is nowhere near the devastating blow it appears to be in dollars. The price is, if anything, appropriate in todays marketplace.
