Market commentary
Important value judgements are based on subtle distinctions. The GT350R driven by Bob Johnson to an SCCA B Production national championship in 1965 was worth $990,000 at RM Amelia last year; the ratty, well raced R driven by Pedro Rodriguez at some local race in Texas brought $748,000 at the Gooding Pebble Beach auction in August. But Tommy Hamiltons multiple championship winning, meticulously restored and race ready R cant get out the door here in Phoenix at $700,000. Tommy, unfortunately, doesnt enjoy the name recognition of Bob Johnson or Pedro Rodriguez, and two CASC championships dont carry the weight of an SCCA B Production title. This car was offered, fresh from an earlier restoration, at the Kruse auction in Topsfield, Massachusetts in May 1991 where it was a no sale at $200,000.
