Equipment
389/360hp Tri-Power, 4-speed, console, pushbutton AM radio, window sticker, PHS documents, media photo, Futura 855 steel-belted radials.
Condition
Decent original paint other than two major scratches on the driver's side, one smaller scratch on the trunk and scratches on both sides of the hood. The brightwork is poor. Scratches, dulling and pitting all around. Engine bay is complete but old and grimy The interior is poor, clean but worn with a missing knob on the console. The driver's seat stitching is starting to come apart. Undercarriage has undercoating but still shows spots of rust starting. A well-equipped, unrestored GTO with potential for the kind of buyer looking for a rewarding muscle car project.
Market commentary
It's all there, but this car needs a lot and the reported high bid was an appropriate offer. Perhaps the consignor got caught up in the mystique of 'originality', but that only works financially when there is a place to have it appreciated. This car is just neglected and its only practical use is as the basis for a restoration that would turn it into a $150,000 piece of jewelry. It will take all the difference to realize its potential and it is unrealistic to expect more than this.
