Equipment
RHD. Silver painted wire wheels, blackwall tires. Commissioned by Jaguar tuner and dealer John Coombs from Frua. Shortened nose and tail with covered headlights, fussy grille treatments and heavy rear fascia surround. Looks like a Japanese sports coupe of the period, and that is not a compliment. Shown to mixed reviews at Geneva in 1966, never placed in production for reasons that are still apparent today. Known history from new, body restored in 2007 with original upholstery. No Reserve.
Market commentary
Offered by Christies at Het Loo in 2003 where it was a no sale at Euros 34,000 (GBP 23,700) then reported sold by Coys at Maastricht in January 2007 for Euros 36,335 (GBP 23,700). Body was redone subsequently which makes the price paid here an appropriate cost based value, but the car is still ugly, an amazing accomplishment in bad taste when starting with an XKE coupe. Even at GBP 9,000 under the low estimate the buyer got no bargain here.
