Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Chrome spoke Borranis, braced rollbar, Momo leather-rim steering wheel, OMP racing seats, Plexi side and rear windows, no bumpers, six Weber carbs. Raced from new by a succession of five Swiss owners. Original parts are included but have to be picked up in Switzerland.

Condition

Well used but presentable historic race car. Cracked center console leather, door panels and dirty carpets suggest how the original seats look. Decent but stone-chipped paint. Clean unrestored chassis.

Market commentary

The low estimate on this car is loopy. Yes, it''s fast. Yes, it has a long competition history. But it''s also unusable anywhere but on track, it''s condition is functional, and it wasn''t owned by Steve McQueen. The reported high bid -- or maybe a little more -- was reasonable for it. This was the second of two Peter Heuberger race cars, neither of which he seemed to be particularly anxious to part with.
