Equipment
215/215hp turbocharged, fuel injected aluminum V8, 4-speed, wire wheel covers, narrow whitewalls, factory turbo, Hurst shifter, buckets and console.
Condition
Paint looks good with some chipping near the window trim. Panel fit is even. Brightwork looks to be original with quite a bit of pitting. Engine compartment looks very clean and correct. Underneath looks very clean and the front end looks to have been recently serviced. Interior looks very good with most things replaced other than some dash pieces that are left original and showing age. Not perfect, but a quite well restored and hardly ever seen example of one of the very first cars of note to be fitted with a turbocharger.
Market commentary
This is a real find, since many of the original Jetfires took advantage of Oldsmobile's offer to replace the FI single turbo intake with a 4-barrel carburetor. The consignor estimated there are only about 20 left with the turbo. At issue was the need to keep the "Turbo Rocket Fuel" reservoir filled to inject a water/alcohol mixture into the intake to suppress detonation. If the reservoir ran dry, the turbo was bypassed and the Jetfire lost its oomph. This car is done to very high standards, is very rare, and it has a 4-speed. While this result is appropriate, it also would be possible to make a strong argument for it being worth more and in any event the new owner can be highly certain it won't be upstaged by another one very often
