Equipment
Four sidedraft Weber carburetors on crossram manifold, Cooper 8 spoke wheels, chrome roll hoop. Raced throughout the West in 1962 by its owner, then lent to Graham Hill for two races at Laguna Seca. Later updated with Chevy 327 V8 but not raced. Restored in 2000 to Can Am spec (whatever that is but apparently includes a Group 7 aluminum monocoque tub) with Buick V8, Halibrand transmission and Airheart disc brakes; it does appear to include updating the transverse leaf spring rear suspension to coil overs. Shiny and wavy. Bodywork charmingly shows every hammer hit and repair. Interior and mechanicals are those of a well cared for vintage racer with plenty of chips, dings, and stains. A fine vintage race car.
Market commentary
Though it possesses some history with a future Grand Prix champion, this Cooper sits in an unoriginal, period incorrect spec. Its early history, though, will ensure its entry in the best vintage races and this price is fair given its many changes from its original configuration. A charismatic car that should be a ball to drive, if a little scary.
